New Course Released: “The Local District Guide to the SSI Process”
The New York State Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance (OTDA) announces the release of TrainingSpace’s latest web-based course, “The Local District Guide to the SSI Process.”
The training is designed to increase learner competency in identifying individuals for referral for Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits and in packaging SSI applications and appeals. After completing the course, learners will be better able to guide appropriate clients through the SSI process, resulting in a higher percentage of applicants being accepted at the initial review level.
“The Local District Guide to the SSI Process” course is targeted towards local social services district staff in New York State who are involved in identifying appropriate applicants for SSI benefits and/or who are involved in assisting clients in applying for these benefits. The training is also available to local partner agencies, including not-for-profit providers and local government agencies. Detailed instructions on how to register a non-DSS employee for a TrainingSpace course can be found in SDC Central on TrainingSpace. If you are a Staff Development Coordinator or training coordinator and do not see one of these areas when you log into TrainingSpace, please contact Dan Feinberg at the phone number or address below.
“The Local District Guide to the SSI Process” uses interactive examples to practice how to effectively and accurately screen a client to determine potential eligibility for SSI, assist clients through the application process, provide appropriate documentation to the Social Security Administration and the Division of Disability Determinations, understand and assist in the appeals process, and implement best practices.
