Program Description
“Understanding Trauma and Mental Health Part 1: What Happened to This Child? ” is a recording of a teleconference previously broadcast on May 1, 2008. This teleconference is the first in a series on trauma and mental health for staff of out-of-home residential care facilities for youth. The video covers a range of child development information that provides insight into how a traumatic experience will influence mental health and the behavior of youth in care.
Presenters: Dr. Joseph Tomassone from the Office of Children and Family Services, with Evan Smith and Jack Fuentes from the Center for Development of Human Services, State University College at Buffalo.
Target Audience
- NYS OCFS staff from Department of Juvenile Justice & Opportunities for Youth (DJJOY) facilities
- Local district staff with out-of-home care responsibilities
- Voluntary agency staff providing out-of-home care for youth on behalf of OCFS (includes child welfare (foster care) agencies and juvenile justice/detention services staff)
