Legal Updates for CPS and Child Welfare Fall 2008
Program Description
The purpose of this course is to review highlights of recent case law affecting Child Protective Services, Foster Care and Adoption casework in New York State. The first part of this teleconference includes reviews of recent case law on issues concerning, but not limited to: General Neglect Issues, Removal Issues, Domestic Violence Issues, Newborn Neglect, Derivative Neglect, Sexual and Physical Abuse, and recent legislation.
The second part of this teleconference includes a review of case law involving foster care, terminations, suspended judgements and adoptions.
This course has been approved to meet 2.5 hours of the required CPS in-service.
Presenter
Margaret Burt, Esq. is a consultant trainer for CDHS/SUC Buffalo. For the past 18 years Ms. Burt has conducted training on legal issues for both new and experienced child welfare and CPS staff.
Special Note
Attorneys viewing this broadcast will be eligible to receive Continuing Legal Education (CLE) credit through the State University at Buffalo Law School. Specific instructions for applying for CLEs will be in the handout packet. This program qualifies for 2.5 non-transitional CLE credits in the area of Professional Practice.

- Experienced (on the job more than one year) child welfare and CPS staff, senior caseworkers, supervisors, directors of service and local district social services attorneys.
