NYC Food Stamps: Income Exclusions
Course Description
NYC Food Stamps: Income Exclusions explores the sources and amount of income that is disregarded when calculating the Food Stamps budget. Throughout the course, sources of excluded income are explored, including educational income, reimbursement income, and income excluded specifically by law.
The course also demonstrates how to enter excluded income into the Paperless Office System (POS) and how these entries are used by the Welfare Management System (WMS) in the Food Stamps budgeting process.
Objectives
After successfully completing the NYC Food Stamps: Income Exclusions web-based course, the learner will be able to:
- Explain the concept of income that is excluded from the Food Stamps budget and how it is different than income deductions.
- Identify the major categories of excluded income.
- Differentiate between those exclusions that are entered into POS and those that are not.
- Recognize common errors related to income exclusions.
- Recognize income exclusions mandated by law.
- Understand how income exclusions are entered into POS for calculation by WMS.
Target Audience
This course is intended for New York City Food Stamps Specialists, who work exclusively with Food Stamps caseloads (as opposed to other locations in New York where workers do both Temporary Assistance and Food Stamps).
Prerequisites
Baseline understanding of the Food Stamps budgeting process, including budgeting earned and unearned income.
