Journey: Pathway through History is designed to provide learners with a historical overview of social services. The course describes historical themes and milestones that have shaped and transformed social services over time. While the course does highlight historical dates and names, the goal of the course is to help learners develop a general understanding and appreciation of the rich historical tapestry that is the foundation of modern social services. Questions and activities throughout the course draw parallels between historic events and the learner’s current experiences with social services.

Target Audience

This course is intended for workers from local social service districts across New York State, the New York State Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance (OTDA), and the New York State Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS). Audience members might include new staff hires or more experienced staff in need of a refresher course.
