Getting Acquainted with CONNECTIONS Updates: The GIC
Course Description
The New York State Office of Children and Family Services, in conjunction with the Professional Development Program, is pleased to announce the computer-based training, Getting Acquainted with CONNECTIONS Updates: The GIC (Geographic Information Center).
The purpose of this course is to provide Local District and Voluntary Agency casework and supervisory staff with detailed instruction on how to access and use the new Geographic Information Center-or GIC- to generate point-to-point driving directions for addresses on their workloads. Proceeding at their own pace, learners can explore the following lessons:
- Introduction: provides information on course organization and navigation.
- The MAPS Tab: provides an overview of the features and structure of the MAPS tab, which houses the GIC.
- Getting Directions: provides instruction on generating and printing directions to selected addresses on a workload.
- Course Wrap-Up: provides information on resources, a brief course review, and navigation to course assessments.
This course is appropriate for both new and experienced users who are assigned INV, FSI, FSS, and/or FAD stages in CONNECTIONS. The approximate completion time is 15 minutes.
Pre-registration for this course through the Statewide Training Automated Registration System (STARS) is required. The Internet address for the STARS website is: http://stars.bsc-cdhs.org. Once registered, you can access this course via Training Space (http://trainingspace.org). Access to Training Space is achieved through a Directory Services account (LDAP Account), which is different from your HSEN account. If you do not have a Directory Services account or have questions about your Directory Services account, contact your district/agency's LAN Administrator or the New York State Enterprise Help Desk (1-800-697-1323).
Please note that for this course, it is necessary to view all pages of the course on the same PC, although not necessarily at one sitting, in order to access course assessments and be credited for course completion.
