CONNECTIONS Security: Your Role and Responsibilities as a Security Coordinator
Description
The purpose of this course is to provide Security Coordinators, backup Security Coordinators and anyone handling CONNECTIONS security functions with the information needed to help them make accurate and informed decisions regarding setting up and maintaining CONNECTIONS security rights for new and existing workers. The information is presented in a scenario-based format using the most common scenarios that occur in almost every agency. Basic information on security awareness and extensive references to additional resources are also included.
Objectives
- Describe your role and responsibilities as Security Coordinator.
- Identify which Business Functions are required to act as Security Coordinator.
- Explain how Organizational Hierarchy and Agency Access can be used to maintain your agency’s security.
- Identify whether your agency uses Organizational Hierarchy and Agency Access.
- Identify how security within your agency is set up.
- Explain the concept of Designees in CONNECTIONS.
- Explain the importance of security guidelines used to address state and federal laws.
- Explain the potential risk related to improper agency security setup and lack of security maintenance (as units and workers change).
- Use the Business Function Guidelines to determine which Business Functions to assign new staff and to identify concerns with current agency security settings.
- Ask appropriate questions to determine which Business Functions a worker should receive.
- Explain the purpose of In/Out assignments and identify when you should use each.
- Explain the use of Job Types as they relate to CONNECTIONS access/security.
- Identify the impact(s) of placing a worker above that of the person who is Unit Approver in the Unit Hierarchy.
- Identify how you will be notified when workers go on leave, depart the agency or undergo changes in responsibility.
- Explain why staff should only be end-dated and never deleted.
- Locate resources useful to improve your own security awareness and that of workers within your agency.
Target Audience
This course is intended for new and existing Security Coordinators. Even experienced Security Coordinators are likely to benefit from the concepts and practices presented in this course. Administrators and others with involvement in district or agency security are also encouraged to participate in order to stay current with best practices. Please note that you can begin the course, stop, and pick up later where you left off.
